Promoting ocean stewardship through better technology

Reducing Ocean Plastic Pollution and Bycatch

We are helping some of the most gear-intensive fisheries in the world reduce their gear loss rates by up to 90% and are proud members of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative. Fishermen armed with early identification and active tracking of gear that breaks free or moves from its set location are able to recover that gear before it is lost or becomes entangled. Hot spot mapping from historical data allows fishers to proactively avoid areas that are prone to conflict with other vessels or subject to challenging currents or conditions

Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Fuel is the largest operating cost for most fishing vessels. Our customers tell is that they are reducing the amount of time it takes to fish their gear by up to 8 hours a day. For vessels that burn up to 20 gallons of fuel per hour this savings can translate into tons of CO2 over the course of a season.

Supporting Sustainable Fishing Communities

Our technology is helping fisheries from New England to the South Pacific continue to operate sustainably and productively. Whether enabling the deployment of offshore anchored FADs that provide local fishermen with access to pelagic fish while relieving pressure on coral reefs or partnering with lobstermen and NOAA to develop new whale-friendly fishing gear, Blue Ocean Gear is committed to supporting the people behind the sustainable wild-caught fisheries that feed much of the world.
